Dr. Stephen Perkins To Be Installed As President of the Indianapolis Medical Society
Stephen W. Perkins, MD, will be installed as the 142nd President of the Indianapolis Medical Society on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 during the regularly-scheduled IMS Board Meeting in the Indianapolis Medical Society’s Conference Center, 631 E. New York Street, Indianapolis. In order to focus on his philosophy for the coming year, Dr. Perkins has decided to forego a “formal” Inaugural.
Dr. Perkins is from Indianapolis and attended North Central High School and DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1977. From 1977 to 1979, Dr. Perkins completed his post-graduate internship and surgery training at St. Vincent Hospital of Indianapolis. From 1979 to 1982, he completed his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis and became Board Certified in October 1982. He completed a year of specialized fellowship training with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Birmingham, Alabama, from 1982 to 1983.
Dr. Perkins’ fellowship experience was focused on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the nose, eyes, face, head and neck. In 1991, he became board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).
For 32 years of private practice in Indianapolis Dr. Perkins has always specialized in and limited his practice to facial plastic surgery. He founded and built the Meridian Plastic Surgery Center in 1990 – Indianapolis’ first privately owned surgery center created solely for plastic surgery. Thirteen years ago he formed his current group practice, Meridian Plastic Surgeons – a unique collaboration of facial plastic and plastic surgeons for the betterment and total care of patients.
Dr. Perkins is actively involved in teaching facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as an AAFPRS Fellowship Director for the past 26 years. In addition, he holds the appointment of Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the IU School of Medicine.
Serving 11 years on the Board of Directors and as past President of the AAFPRS, Dr. Perkins regularly makes presentations at national and international meetings and symposiums. He has recently been an invited speaker in the Netherlands, Mexico, Switzerland, Turkey, Italy, Germany, England, Norway, Columbia, and most recently Brazil. He is also an author and editor for numerous peer-reviewed medical publications, including articles in major journals and book chapters.
